Susan Metzger fell in love with batik while living in the U.S. Virgin Islands. The cracking that occurs in batik seemed to her to be the perfect way to interpret the age and beauty of the old manors and plantations that dot the island of St. Croix. She also uses the effect to recreate her memories of the abode and white washed buildings of Honduras. Susan moved to Palisade after hurricane Hugo destroyed 90% of St. Croix. While she likes living and working in Palisade, many of her inspirations still come from the Caribbean, Latin America, and other places that she has traveled.
Susan’s will show us how to batik and the encaustic finish that she has recently been experimenting with. Join us upstairs at the Blue Pig in Palisade at 1pm. Thanks so much for coming.
